Warren Murphy Has Passed Away

Posted in Uncategorized on September 5, 2015 by sunnyjoedale

It is with great sadness that we must report Warren Murphy passed away this morning (September 4).  We’ve adapted part of his biography page from his website, and will add more details as they become available.

Warren Murphy was born in Jersey City, where he worked as a reporter and editor. After the Korean war, he drifted into politics, “but when everybody I worked for went to jail, I thought God was sending me a message to find a new line of work.” The first Destroyer novel followed soon after.

Murphy is survived by five children, Deirdre, Megan, Brian, Ardath and Devin, and several grandchildren.

He had been an adjunct professor at Moravian College, Bethlehem, PA, and had also run workshops and lectured at many other schools and universities. His hobbies were golf, mathematics, opera and investing.

He had served on the board of the Mystery Writers of America, and also had been a member of the Private Eye Writers of America, the International Association of Crime Writers, the American Crime Writers League, and the Screenwriters Guild.

Murphy was also a member of the Adams Roundtable, a New York writers’ social group, among whose members are Mary Higgins Clark, Peter Straub, Susan Isaacs, Lawrence Block, Harlan Coben, Judith Kelman, Mickey Friedman, Dorothy Salisbury Davis, Justin Scott, Stanley Cohen and Whitley Strieber, and who occasionally produce mystery anthologies.

Warren at our chat

Warren Murphy was at our chat last night.  He stayed for over an hour, answering questions and talking about the future of The Destroyer.

The chat transcript is available at Dale’s House of Sinanju.

Brian posted some photos and a short video up at Destroyer Books.

Many thanks to Warren and his sons Brian and Devin.

Let’s try to goose the movie people

Posted in Uncategorized on June 27, 2010 by destroyerclub

Another summer is here with The Destroyer movie seemingly caught in limbo.   There hasn’t been any news for months.

Maybe it would help if the fans could show their enthusiasm for the movie?  If the movie people check anyplace, it may be the movie’s entry on IMDB.

Here’s a link to The Destroyer’s discussion board:  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1474280/board

It wouldn’t hurt, too, if maybe a few of the comments expressed frustration at the delay and asked when the show was going to get on the road.

I hope some of you, at least, will follow through.  Usually the majority stays silent, thinking someone else will do it.  But maybe comments like  “I can’t wait for a real Destroyer movie” and “This is great!  How soon is it happening?”  — or even, “The movie’s been announced for a year now, when will we see it start production?” —  will prod the movie people a bit.  And maybe that would help get the series back in print again.

You do have to register to post, but it’s no worse than registering on any other forums. I don’t remember if you have to check off of any options when registering.  All I can say is, I’ve never been bothered by spam mail from them.

Christian Wolf has written Destroyer themed music. He pooled his music with  a friend, Yoram Laviv’s talent for graphics, and made the opening credits for a Destroyer movie:
